ESKAPE Pathogens: Antimicrobial Resistance Patterns, Risk Factors, and Outcomes a Retrospective Cross-Sectional Study of Hospitalized Patients in Palestine
This study aimed to identify antimicrobial resistance patterns and factors associated with multi-drug resistance strains among hospitalized patients in a tertiary care medical hospital in Palestine. The study included 231 patients aged over 18 years who had been infected with ESKAPE pathogens 48 hours after hospital admission. The most prevalent MDR pathogen was A. baumannii, with Carbapenem-resistant over 95%. Risk factors for MDR infection included age, department, and invasive procedures. Patients diagnosed with MDR bacteria had increased 30-day mortality. The findings highlight the need for healthcare providers and the Ministry of Health to adopt policies to prevent antimicrobial resistance.
